By this article, I would like to show, that media has not only the bad impact on society necessarily. Conversely, by spreading the information to the masses, media can send and important information, that could have innovative or positive impact on society. Probably every human being, who is at least a bit interested in cooking and food industry, know Jamie Oliver. He earned a lot of fame regarding to several campaigns that brought innovations in relation to children and improving their diet. Next campaign, called Sugar rush, implemented in summer 2015, aroused awareness about overuse of sugar which highly result in type-2 diabetes and rotten teeth, especially among the small children. By this campaign, Oliver “is throwing his weight behind the calls of 20% tax on sugar – sweetened drinks in the UK” (Boseley, Sarah, The Guardian, 27.08.2015).
Additionally, he created a documentary that is trying to spread the dreadful truth about the sugar and its impact. It is almost unbelievable, that in average, British citizen consumes around 40 cubes of sugar in their meals and drink over the day. Now, the question occurs: Could such campaigns help? I believe that it can and I would appreciate, if Czech republic would stand for the same opinion and go along the lines of this campaign. The overuse of sugar is not only the case of United Kingdom, but increasingly, it becomes important issue over the whole world. So, it is important to have a warrior as Oliver is, but even more important is to think about this issue critically and evaluate whether your favored soft drink is worth the complications, that could influence your life.
